Today I was perusing k-pop websites when I came across a picture of Teen Top’s comeback. I had to stop to think for a second because I was so sure that they just had a comeback last month and in January. Well they did have two comebacks this year already and after confirming it, I really got annoyed.
Once upon a time, K-pop groups debuted with really cool names like Big Bang, Super Junior, Girl’s Generation, Shinhwa, g.O.d, etc. There wasn’t any sort of gimmick to their names and if there were some fancy meaning to their names (like g.O.d) they didn’t sound stupid, random, or nonsensical. However, a wave of newcomers in the recent years began experimenting with names that they think will make them stand out and sound more important or fancy with the English words they oh so carefully chose to describe their bands. The result: ill-fitting adjectives, unintentionally humorous names, and unfortunate jokes. Here at Dramapop, we’d like to share our list of the ten dumbest K-pop band names that we’ve come across.
It’s a brand new year and Teen Top is on top of it! With the release of their second mini album, Teen Top is going for a more mature image in an attempt to shed the word “teen” in their names. There’s the trouble with their name. Despite any show of maturity, their music will forever be for teens because of their name, giving a foreboding idea that their group wouldn’t last beyond their teen years. But why think of such bad thoughts when it’s a new year?
Here to continue with my obsessive listing, I bring you #50 through #21 on my list of favorite songs of the year! We’re going to wrap the lists this week. So without further ado, here they are accompanied by short anecdotes on each track
50. Don’t Spray Perfume – Teen Top:
The lyrics are sexy and forbidding, the music is fun and bright, and the vocals are quite mature.
49. They Are Coming – Wheesung:
His last song before the military carries bittersweet undertones; He is a fantastic singer and lyricist.
48. One Last Cry – N-Train:
The new 4Men? Maybe. This song does well to showcase their very strong vocals. The music is sweet too.
As most of you know, finals may be the most depressing time of a student’s life. While studying, I came to the realization that some songs just have that feel-good factor that really picks you up. I compiled a list of the songs I played the most during my finals week. Check out my top ten below! Continue reading
As you very well may know, in most KPop groups, there is a designated leader. The leader is supposed to generally be in charge of the group members, making sure they perform to the best of their abilities both on and off stage. Continue reading
With the recent news of G-Dragon and TOP going apeshit with the hairstyle they choose (
I mean look at them–I mean, DON’T LOOK AT THEM), I want to shed some light on a recent phenomena that is really upsetting me: RED HAIR. I understand that some people have red hair when they were born (gingers, ya know) but celebrities these days opt for the hair color that is unnaturally bright red (sometimes bordering on pink) and I just don’t understand why.
I'm trying to be avant-garde here people, sheesh!
